In this blog, we will be discussing the attributes of Eternity and Everlastingness of Allah.
The Eternity of Allah:

Let it be known that Allah is Eternal, without a beginning; He is the only Eternal being in this sense, and nothing else is eternal. Allah existed before time, place, and this whole world was created. The world is not Eternal; rather originated, it existed after non-existence. Some Philosophers and people claiming they are Muslims, when they're not, dissented and either said the world is eternal by kind and elements or by kind only. The ones claiming that the world is eternal, be it by kind or elements or both, have associated partners to Allah in Eternity, and associating partners to Allah renders a person a non-Muslim.

Some proofs of Allah's Eternity:

  1. Intellectual Proof:

If Allah isn't Eternal, this would imply He is originated/created, and every originated being needs someone to bring it into existence and needing others is a weakness if attributed to God. Hence, Allah is Eternal, without a beginning, and this is what the sound intellect dictates. His Existence was not preceded by non-existence.

  2. Textual Proofs:

    From The Qur'an: ﴾هُوَ الْأَوَّلُ وَالْآَخِرُ﴿ [Surat Al-Hadid: 3],

which means: "Allah is the One Whose Existence is without a beginning and without an end".

From The Hadith: «كان الله ولم يكن شىءٌ غيره»,

Which means: "Allah existed Eternally and nothing else existed".

The Everlastingness of Allah:

Allah is the only Being Who is Everlasting without anyone specifying Him with everlastingness. Paradise, Hellfire, People of Paradise and Hellfire, and their souls are all everlasting; they are everlasting in the sense that Allah specified them with that, if Allah didn't will for them to stay, they would've perished. The Eternal Being, Allah, is Everlasting, without an end.

Some proofs of Allah's Everlastingness:

  1. Intellectual proof: If Allah is not Everlasting, this would mean He perishes, and changing from the state of being existent to the state of non-existence needs someone to create that change, and whoever needs others is not a God. If Allah is susceptible to perishing, this would mean He is susceptible to what the creations are susceptible to, and we have already explained what this would imply in our lesson: Allah's Non-Resemblance to the Creation (you can find the button to view the lesson below). Therefore, the sound intellect dictates that Allah will never cease to exist.

  2. Textual proofs:

    From The Qur'an: ﴾هُوَ الْأَوَّلُ وَالْآَخِرُ﴿ [Surat Al-Hadid: 3],

which means: "Allah is the One Whose Existence is without a beginning and without an end". More proofs would need a more in-depth explanation, but this is one of them.

The Life of Allah:

Allah is attributed with Life, a Life unlike ours. His Life is not by means of flesh, bones, ligaments, or soul. Allah is not a soul as some misguided people say, nor is He attributed with having a soul. His Life is Beginningless and Endless. Our Life has a beginning, every creation has a beginning to its creation.

Some proofs of Allah's Life:

  1. Intellectual proof: If Allah was not attributed with Life, or if He was not alive, who would've created this whole universe? We already proved that it is impossible for this world to exist on its own, without a creator. Hence, the sound intellect dictates that Allah is attributed with Life.

  2. Textual Proofs:

    From the Qur'an: ﴾اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ﴿ [Surat Al-Baqarah: 255],

This verse means: "No one is God but Allah, the One attributed with Life and does not need anything".

In this blog, we have briefly explained the attributes of Eternity, Everlastingness, and Life of Allah. In our next blog, we will be discussing the attributes of Power and Will of Allah.
